Affinity Funding
Overview
The Canadian Medical Association (CMA), MD Financial Management Inc. (MD) and Scotiabank together are firmly committed to supporting the medical profession and advancing health in Canada. As proof of this commitment, Scotiabank, in collaboration with the CMA and MD, is investing $115 million to support physicians and the communities they serve across Canada.
Funding Focus
Affinity funding is focused on advancing CMA’s Impact 2040 strategy, by supporting initiatives improving physician wellness and the culture of medicine. This focus includes supporting initiatives that advance reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
We have two streams of funding:
- Supporting projects and programs making systems-level change, and
- Funding events to bring physicians and/or medical learners together.
Eligibility
Organizations
Affinity funding supports Canadian organizations, including non-profits and charities.
Funding will not be provided to:
- Individuals or unincorporated groups
- Sports teams
- Service/Private clubs and organizations
- Religious organizations
- Political organizations
Initiatives
Affinity funding will not support:
- Biomedical or clinical research projects, for example, initiatives focused on conducting medical experiments, clinical trials, or laboratory-based research
- The delivery of clinical services, including psychiatric treatment, counselling, and primary healthcare
- Capital projects
- Initiatives receiving funding from pharmaceutical companies
Application Process
Applying for Affinity funding is a two-step process:

Intake Form – At the bottom of this page there is a link to an intake form:
- The form requests basic information about projects and can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.
- Submitted forms are reviewed by staff from the Affinity group.
- We seek to respond within three weeks of the form being submitted.
- Initiatives with strong potential to advance our funding focus will be invited to complete a full application.
- Full Application
- The application requests more detailed information about initiatives.
- Submitted forms are reviewed by staff from the Affinity group.
- Decisions may take up to three months after an application is submitted.
Please note a risk assessment will take place on all recommended initiatives and it can take two or more months for a funding agreement to be signed after funding has been approved.
Instructions
- To initiate your form, click the “Submit a new application” button below.
- You will be prompted to create or log into your account.
- Tip – Creating an account is easy! All you need to do is provide your preferred email address and set a password.
- Select “Submit a New Application”.
- Tip – If you have already started an application, you can come back to complete it at any time.
- Fill out the application.
- Once your application is complete, press the “Validate and Send” button. You will receive an email confirming your application has been received.
- Tip – you will not be able to edit your application once it has been submitted.
